Joel Carnegie

Joel Carnegie has 15 years of experience working across arts, media and entertainment sectors - holding executive leadership roles as well as facilitating large-scale creative projects. His work is highly collaborative and skilfully draws together humans of diverse backgrounds to realise ambitious projects.

He is passionate about the social impact of ‘storymaking’ and fosters an emergent style of collaborative work practice that unfolds over time, as an exchange amongst collaborators. His most recent research into cultural leadership explores mindfulness and somatic leadership practices to enable leading in a more natural and integrative way, charting a course through a complex and unpredictable world towards new regenerative solutions.

Joel Carnegie is known for creating compelling high-quality stories and creative story experiences across theatrical, screen, audio, and online platforms both in Australia and overseas, and leads high-quality original stories across factual and drama for theatrical, screen, audio, immersive and online platforms - for export to the world via The Space Company.

His award-winning broadcast work has reached millions of people internationally, airing on networks including including Audible (Australia), ABC Classic (Australia), ABC News Radio (Australia), ABC RN (Australia), American Public Media (Peabody award-winning classical music radio program - Performance Today, USA), BBC World Service (UK), CBC (Canada), Deutsche Welle (Germany), National Film and Sound Archive (Australia), PRI (USA), PRX (USA), and RFI (France).

As a cultural advocate, he has supported Australian music/musicians and music education outcomes across many years of partnership and outreach focussed broadcast and performance work - and has a track record of advocating for and supporting artists/creative folk in metro and regional communities.

Joel holds a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from the University of Melbourne, a Graduate Certificate of Business (Arts + Cultural Management) from Deakin University, a Master of Arts (Media & Communications) from Swinburne University of Technology, and hosts a podcast about storymaking called "The Storymakers Institute" featuring a line-up of special guests.

When he’s out on the road or at home, he can be found immersed in music of all styles, shapes, forms and colours.
